Spanish for Pre-K

My name is Laura Hernandez. I am a licensed Spanish Teacher certified in Early Childhood through 12th grade and have been teaching Spanish for over 25 years.

I take a very natural and above all fun approach to teaching Spanish. The class is taught verbally. I use very little translation. In this way, the children develop an “ear” for Spanish and begin to develop the structure of another language in their brains. At this early age it comes easily to them.

I teach meaning through interactive games, songs, gestures, visual aids, manipulatives, crafts, stories and much more. My curriculum also embodies cultural awareness of all Spanish speaking countries including Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Spain.

Every month or so I introduce a new unit. Each unit has a core vocabulary (for example, clothing). We develop language around the core vocabulary and work on specific grammar points. As the year progresses, we build on these language skills. I send out occasional updates so you can see what we’ve been working on.

My goal is to give children a foundation in Spanish and to make learning fun! This motivates them and helps maintain an interest in learning a foreign language as they move forward.
